Weight Loss and Eating Disorders
Regarding care provided to a weight loss and/or eating disorder client, it is important that we collaborate with and refer to other health professionals. Regarding eating disorders, our collaboration with a physician, nutritionist, psychiatrist and/or nurse practitioner is crucial. Per our privacy practices policy, and with your permission, we will collaborate and communicate with all relevant healthcare professionals involved in your care. Please note the following professional roles:
- A physician can assist in establishing and/or confirming an obesity and/or eating disorder diagnosis, by ruling out other medical conditions. He or she may also evaluate medical complications and prescribe appropriate medications.
- A nutritionist is critical in assisting clients, while they are creating meal goals and working toward building a more positive relationship with food. A nutritionist can also assist in educating clients and their families on food and nutrition. They can assist with designing/implementing a nutritional treatment plan.
- A psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner can prescribed medication if needed and diagnosed other psychiatric issues that may be present.
- Therapeutic Greenhouse’s intervention of psychotherapy is important to ensure that the deeper issues behind the obesity and/or eating disorder are processed and addressed. We can assist in the initial diagnosis as well as the psychological work needed to assist you and your family with moving beyond the condition and/or disorder.
Medication Evaluations
Medication may be a very important piece of the treatment in combination with psychotherapy. Therefore, our clinicians will at times refer you to a physician, psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner to receive a medication evaluation and/or pharmacological treatment and management. Please be aware it is solely your choice to consume medication in conjunction with psychotherapy.
